Our Verdict

Altra lone peaks are quickly getting a reputation as one of the best hiking shoe brands in the world, specifically in the thru-hiking community.  Designed to give your feet  a more natural environment, they boast a huge toe box, that allows your feet to spread and swell more so than other trail runners , the are also “zero drop” meaning you have the heel and forefoot in a level position, imitating the natural barefoot position on flat surfaces. This helps reduce the impact on your joints.

The midsole has a lot of cushion but, still allows you to be responsive to the trail and the MaxTrac soul has a lot of grip meaning you can get a lot of traction on all terrains. These are made to wear day in and day out, covering many miles, and are the shoe of choice for many on the longer American trail such as the AT or the PCT.
